Accomplishments: Mac Shelton has mediated over 500 cases and served as a mediator and arbitrator exclusively since 2000. His ADR career began in 1987 when he was a trial lawyer with MacDonald Hogue & Bayless, a Seattle firm known for its personal injury, employment, and civil rights work. Mr. Shelton’s 30-year law practice included employment and civil rights cases, but later focused on brain injuries resulting from bicycle and motorcycle accidents, product and premises liability, as well as medical negligence cases.

Mac Shelton has mediated a wide range of civil claims, including commercial, real estate and tort claims. Whether dealing with a “seven figure” claim or lesser amount, Mac Shelton has a reputation for being relentless but patient and diplomatic. He is known for his attention to detail, being a quick study, and for his perseverance in following up the case that does not settle on the mediation date. He is regularly asked to serve as a sole or swing arbitrator in UM/UIM or other proceedings.

Mr. Shelton is a member of the Washington State Supreme Court Committee on Pattern Jury Instructions (“the WPI Committee”), on which he has served for 30 years. He has been chairperson and/or lectured at many CLE seminars regarding mediation and litigation. Mr. Shelton served as a chairperson or officer of many bar association and community organizations, including the American Bar Association Journal’s Advisory Board, Seattle Public Defender Association, Washington State Brain Injury Association, Bicycle Alliance of Washington, and National US-China Peoples Friendship Association.; admitted to the bars of the U.S. Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
